It’s true that most people would prefer year-round summer months, but that doesn’t happen, especially up here, in the north. In the Greater Toronto Area, many commercial facilities have to be extremely concerned about the winter months and the precipitation that comes along with it. After all, with road salts, snow, ice, and so much more getting tracked in constantly, every single day, it can take a significant toll on those floor surfaces.
What can be done to protect them?
One of the first things is to use walk off mats. A scrape off mat can be a valuable asset, especially outside, in the front of the building, at the main entrance. People walk across this type of mat and as much snow, slush, and ice and other debris that gets tracked in on the bottom of shoes can get scraped off.
Then, at the inside portion of the entryway, other mats can collect as much moisture and the rest of the residue as possible. Still, the maintenance department will have to keep up with the general cleaning to make sure the entryways are safe. The more people that travel through these doorways, especially when it is snowing outside and the sidewalks and parking areas are covered in precipitation, the greater the pattern of water and other debris gets tracked in. It may require thorough cleaning of the commercial floor surfaces around the entryways several times a day.
A mop and bucket just won’t do.
A mop and bucket may be optimal for small areas, but for larger surface areas, a high quality commercial floor cleaning machine is a better option. When it is portable, like the Rabbit-3, it makes cleaning floors much easier. This lightweight model makes keeping up with floor cleaning incredibly easy, reducing man-hours, and helping to protect the floor surfaces, even during the tough winter months ahead.
