Any time you’re having work done on a commercial space, you want to ensure safety and security of everyone having access to that facility. Whether the commercial facility is shut down to the general public, tenants, or others, there are still going to be construction personnel coming and going.
Below are four tips that can help ensure safety and security for anyone who has any business whatsoever coming onto the property and entering the facility.
Tip #1: Make sure the construction personnel clear walking areas.
They may be bringing in materials and other construction necessities, but you want to designate certain walking areas, especially if they lead to elevators or other office spaces.
Tip #2: Check the floor regularly.
Even though the construction personnel may be highly experienced, accidents can happen. A cracked ceramic tile, gouged linoleum tile, or even a linoleum tile that gets slightly pulled up can become a serious tripping hazard. Have those tiles extricated and replaced as quickly as possible.
Tip #3: Have the commercial floors clean on a daily basis.
Even though the construction may be going on for weeks, make sure the maintenance personnel are cleaning the floors every day to keep them as protected as possible during the construction itself.
Tip #4: Rely on plenty of signs.
Utilize signs to indicate where it is safe to walk and so that people are paying attention to the construction going on around them. Even construction that is taking place 50 feet to the right could pose a potential risk to somebody walking through the facility. As long as they are aware of what is going on, it can help to limit liability for you as the owner.
