The other night, just before bed, I was leafing through the news and stumbled upon some not-so-sweet bedtime stories coming from the lanes of Toronto and the canals of Venice.
It was a rude prelude to what should have been a peaceful night’s sleep.
It seems these (and many other) cities have rolled out the red carpet (unwillingly, of course) for bed bugs in more places than you might imagine.
Toronto has been named and shamed by Orkin Canada, a pest and wildlife control services organization, as the worst city in Canada for bed bugs for the 3rd year in a row.
And far away places like Venice’s charming lodgings and high-speed trains in Paris, France, are also playing host to these unwelcome guests.
These critters are not just feasting on the blood of unsuspecting sleepers, but also nibbling away at the peace of mind of property owners and managers.
If you’ve ever chatted with a weary traveller or a frazzled hotel manager, you’d know that bed bugs are like the uninvited guests who crash the party and won’t leave.
They sneak into the plush carpets, cozy beds, snug furnishings, and then expand their territory to taxis, buses, trains, airplanes and even luggage, turning a sweet slumber into a scratchy soiree.
