Care for Different Types of Flooring

Stonechat GrinderDifferent types of surfaces need different care. To keep your flooring looking new you need to use the right machine or extension.

A hard wearing, waterproof type floor like vinyl or PVC is fairly easy to maintain. Regular care should include sweeping and mopping. You will occasionally need to use a floor polisher or buffer to remove the inevitable, persistent stains that appear over time. Floor polisher pads allow persistent substances to be removed without leaving scratches on your flooring after cleaning. A floor pad extension to the floor polishers should be used for vinyl or PVC flooring.

Linoleum won’t fair as well as vinyl if it is washed rather than polished. It will dull and fade fairly quickly. This happens because the color is actually being washed out of the floor with each cleaning. To keep your Linoleum flooring looking its best, it needs to be polished. This will not wash out the color keeping its vibrant look longer. A floor pad extension should ideally be used for Linoleum flooring.

Mopping is not recommended for wood floors. If too much water is used on wood it can swell. Polishing not only eliminates this potential problem, it also adds a protective layer that keeps your wood looking better longer. It also adds shine that mopping can’t. This shine lasts long after the floor is cleaned and provides a more professional first appearance for your business to your clients and customers.

Ceramic tiles need very little in the way of cleaning. Simply using a mop will take care of the majority of it. But over time scratches on the surface start to appear that mopping won’t remove. This is where you will need an industrial polisher, or buffer, as these types of floor cleaners will remove the scratches from the tile, and thus the dirt with them, returning your tiles to looking as if they have just been lain.

Marble, granite, and stone flooring require regular polishing. If these types of hard surfaces are not kept properly, then like tiles, scratches and stains start to appear in the surface and dirt can then accumulate. Industrial polishers, when equipped with the right polisher pad brushes, can remove these scratches, dirt and stains and restore your flooring to its lustrous appearance.

Keeping a Terrazzo floor looking good can be expensive if you are constantly stripping and reapplying wax. Instead, you could use an electric floor polisher. The machine will not only save you time and money but will leave your floor looking its very best. Floor pads and a floor brush extension for floor polishers should be used for Terrazzo flooring.
