The right equipment can make all the difference in the world when it comes to any job. When you are responsible for commercial floor maintenance and you have to clean carpeting in some areas, the property owner may not understand how important it is to have a commercial vacuum and may instead encourage you to rely on a residential vacuum cleaner.
There are a number of problems you face when trying to clean commercial carpeting with a residential vacuum.
The space factor.
Not only will a commercial floor likely be much larger than any home you’ll find in the Greater Toronto Area, it will be far too much for a residential vacuum cleaner to keep up with on a consistent basis. If you have to vacuum daily, such as during the evening or overnight hours, that vacuum cleaner is going to wear out very quickly.
A commercial vacuum cleaner is designed to cover greater square meters than a residential vacuum cleaner. It won’t overheat and will generally do a much better job.
Power.
While you may have a tendency to assume a home’s carpeting is going to get much dirtier because it has a thicker pile and there is likely kids running around tracking in dirt on a daily basis, commercial office spaces can leave behind staples, paper clips, and a host of other dirt and foreign contaminants that residential vacuum cleaners will not be able to collect.
Just because it is a short pile carpet doesn’t mean it’s easier for a vacuum cleaner to pick that stuff up. Those commercial carpets deserve the kind of power necessary to pick up some heavier objects.
Durability.
Another thing to think about is how long the vacuum cleaner is going to last. A residential vacuum cleaner that is exposed to coins, paperclips, staples, and other common items found in offices is going to break down more quickly than a commercial vacuum cleaner. That’s because they are not built to endure these items rolling through the beater bar and banging around.
When choosing a vacuum cleaner for your commercial carpets, always choose a commercial piece of equipment.
