Yes, winter is here. The snow is beginning to fall and that means difficult driving conditions. It also means parking areas and sidewalks will need to be cleaned. For any commercial facility, this can have a direct impact on safety for men and women who are coming onto the facility, whether as consumers, employees, or the general public. That snow and ice is going to have an immediate and direct impact on safety and commercial floor surfaces.
It’s necessary to keep the sidewalks and parking areas as clean as possible.
It’s not just a matter of safety and requirements by local laws and regulations, but it’s also going to have a direct impact on those commercial floor surfaces. When the snow is falling, maintenance personnel might have to go out constantly with shovels or snowblowers to keep those areas clear, especially during normal working hours. Once all the snow has fallen, it may still be necessary to go out there consistently to scrape off the ice, the remaining snow, throw salt down, and continue doing that until all of the moisture is dried up from common walking areas.
If this isn’t done, it means a lot more snow, salt, sand, and other debris will be tracked in onto those commercial floor surfaces. Walkoff and scraper mats can be a valuable asset both inside and outside of the common entry areas. Still, it will also be necessary to have a mop or even a wet/dry vacuum to pick up the excessive moisture that gets carried on to the surfaces of the floors. While it may not be practical to keep up with it during the peak traffic times, such as the morning and late afternoon or evening hours, it will still be necessary to keep up with these issues as best you can.
Winter can be a challenge and keeping these commercial areas clear and safe are necessary for not just safety, but also helping to protect the integrity and quality of those floor surfaces.
