When you’re trying to figure out what commercial floor surface to install in your new or renovated commercial facility, you may have a lot of questions. One thing you may not take into account, though, is maintenance.
Some commercial floor surfaces are easier to maintain than others, but that doesn’t mean they only have to be cleaned once a week, once a month, or less often. Let’s take a regular concrete floor surface for example.
Many commercial facilities rely on concrete as their base floor. They may not put any other surface on top of them because they have forklifts, trucks, and other vehicles driving over them constantly, day in and day out.
Nothing is going to be better than a concrete floor surface in this particular situation. A major mistake a lot of these companies make, though, is they neglect maintenance for these floors. They look and feel almost indestructible. They don’t need to be swept daily, right? They don’t need to be cleaned thoroughly every once in a while, right?
Wrong.
In fact, if a concrete floor is not cleaned and properly maintained, it can begin to break down, crack, and lead to very serious safety issues.
There are several viable commercial floor surfaces to consider.
You have your traditional concrete, but you also have polished concrete, which can be made to look into almost any surface, including mosaic tile, hardwood, and more. You also have linoleum tile, very common and popular with larger facilities, such as hospitals and malls, ceramic tile, which is much costlier and may require a lot more care, and marble.
Marble is not practical for most commercial facilities, at least not in large surface areas. So which one is right for you in your commercial facility? That depends on your budget, how much you’re planning to invest in maintenance, and the skill of your maintenance department to properly maintain the floor surface. Sit down with them, if you have a maintenance department already, and get their input. It could be invaluable to you in the years to come.
