How Much Time Should Your Maintenance Department Focus on Bathroom Cleanliness?

Home Cleaning Tips that Can Positively Impact Commercial SpacesKeeping the bathrooms in any commercial facility clean is absolutely essential. Even if the bathroom is only used by employees of the facility, that doesn’t mean they should be neglected.

However, far too many business owners don’t make bathroom cleanliness a top priority. Then customers, visitors, and even employees will step into the bathroom, see the dirt, grime, paper towels all over the floor, the garbage can that is belching out crumpled up paper towels, and even unnecessary bodily fluids all around the toilets and urinals.

It’s not only unsanitary, it’s unsafe. So just how much time should a maintenance department be focused on keeping those bathrooms clean?

That all depends on how much use the bathrooms receive on a regular basis. For a facility that has several hundred people working in it or customers who come and go, then there should be a maintenance personnel who checks the bathroom every half hour or hour to either mop, replace the garbage bags in the cans, wipe down the sinks, and make sure the toilet paper rolls and paper towel rolls are filled and ready for use.

The bottom line should be that a bathroom remains as clean as possible, within reason. Within reason essentially means there’s no way to predict what one individual may do to make a mess when they step inside. One disrespectful individual could make a complete disaster out of the bathroom because they don’t pay attention to what they’re doing, don’t care to get things in the garbage, decide to leave their fast food wrappers and food on the sink that spilled onto the floor, or walk in their straight from the mud outside.

When those things happen, there’s little anyone can do because you can’t predict it. As for the other things, get a general assessment of how often the bathrooms are used, how long it takes to reach a point where they need to be wiped down and cleaned, and then have at least one individual take care of these bathrooms at least every couple of hours, if not checking on them once an hour.
