Keeping Commercial Floors Safe during Severe Storms

Keeping Commercial Floors Safe during Severe StormsWhen severe weather strikes, people often seek out shelter. They’ll find shelter wherever they can, including in commercial facilities. If you own or manage a floor machines facility that is generally open to the public, such as a retail store or strip mall, you need to make sure that any open commercial space is safe for people, even during the most challenging times with regard to weather.

Severe weather can be in the form of torrential downpours, lightning storms, excessive winds, and more. If a torrential downpour is forecast or a severe storm is on the horizon, there are a few steps you should take to ensure safety and security for anybody who plans on entering your facility for any reason.

Place mats within the doorway.

Placing some type of mat inside the doorway helps to reduce the amount of water that actually gets onto the hard floor surface. When ceramic tile, linoleum tile, or some other floor surface gets wet, it can become slick. Somebody stepping in from outside, especially on a high traction concrete surface and steps onto the wet floor surface, they can easily lose their balance and become injured.

Mop wet areas as quickly as possible.

This may mean moving maintenance personnel or other individuals off of their current assignments to mop the floors. Make sure somebody is paying attention to the floor surfaces and mopping them up as needed.

Check for any damage to the commercial floor surface.

This should be done on a regular basis and not just during moments of severe weather. When you follow these steps and tips, it will improve safety for anyone coming into your commercial facility seeking shelter from severe storms.
