Protecting the floors of your commercial facilities should always be a top priority. When you hire an experienced maintenance department, it can go a long way toward doing just that. However, there are certain factors that may be beyond their control, at least with regard to actually clean those floor surfaces.
The air ducts throughout the facility need to be cleaned regularly.
Whether the air ducts come through a vent in the ceiling, along the walls, by the baseboards, or even in the floors, they will attract dust over time. If you don’t clean these air ducts regularly, it will increase the amount of dust that is getting blown through the air, even if you don’t see it, and that dust will eventually settle down onto the floor surfaces, whether it’s linoleum tile, ceramic, carpeting, or some other surface.
Remove the registers.
When you go to clean the air ducts, make sure the registers, or vents, are removed. You’ll want to wash these off thoroughly and make sure there is no dust or other dirt residue remaining on them.
Take a commercial vacuum with a long hose attachment and extend it as deeply as you can into the air ducts to clean out as much as possible. Some professional cleaning services have cameras with their devices so they can see exactly where the dust has collected, including along seams in the ductwork itself.
Get as much of this dust removed from the ducts as possible. You want to spend extra attention on the outlets of each of these ducts because that’s where the most dust and dirt will collect. Clean the top, sides, and bottom of all ductwork and this will help to reduce the amount of dust and dirt that gets blown through the air whenever the heater or air-conditioning system turns on.
With less dust floating throughout the air, your floors will remain cleaner for a longer period of time. It may seem like such a subtle thing, but it can make a world of difference for commercial floor surfaces.
