How to Protect Clients when Cleaning Commercial Floors

warning-signwet-floorKeeping commercial floors clean is essential to a positive and healthy atmosphere. If you operate an organization that doesn’t shut down, it can also be challenging to keep your clients or customers safe.

Hospitals are often challenged with trying to maintain their floors while patients, doctors, and even visitors are coming by at all hours of the day and night. While many hospitals will have specific ‘visiting hours,’ that doesn’t mean they aren’t going to be meandering down the halls from time to time.

The best way to keep your clients and employees safe when cleaning commercial floors is to have the work done during times of the day or night when there is the least amount of traffic. This is usually during the overnight hours, but for some commercial establishments, it could also be during the morning hours.

Close off sections

If possible, cordon off one section at a time that you’re going to clean. If there are patients, guests, or employees that are going to be using certain sections all of the time, or there is the likelihood of use, then inform all staff members that maintenance crews will be cleaning at a specific time. They may need to adjust their schedules to accommodate.

Put up signs

Make sure that your maintenance crews have signs that clearly indicate that the floors will be wet and that people should use caution if they need to walk on them.

Work in small segments

If the maintenance crew is going to be working over a long section of hallway or floor space, they should focus on smaller sections at any given time. For example, they should thoroughly clean a 20-square meter section first, then move to the next section. This will minimize the slick conditions for clients or employees.

Once the work is complete, be sure that the signs remain in place for as long as it takes the commercial floor to completely dry and be safe.
