Now that school’s back in session, you may be the one responsible for keeping them looking great. That can be an overwhelming challenge, to say the least. While these are probably linoleum tile, that’s not always the case.
It could be carpeting in some of the rooms, such as the auditorium. When the kids are back in school, you need to pay attention to some important details, like keeping up with regular cleaning, buffing, stripping, and waxing.
Most of the time maintenance personnel who are responsible for the floors in school buildings will be able to start working when the final bell rings and the kids are shuffled onto the bus, that’s not always practical, especially if there are after school activities.
This would be the ideal time to begin walking around and inspecting the various floor surfaces. Look for any gum or other sticky residue that’s been left behind. Use the proper tools to begin getting those foreign contaminants up.
You can check out the bathrooms and begin cleaning these rooms if you have the authority to lock them up afterward. This will help ensure they are clean and ready for the next day.
When the kids are gone for the most part, you should begin working in individual classrooms, especially those that will not be used for the rest of the afternoon or night.
With children coming in everyday, there are going to be some incredible challenges you face when it comes to keeping those floors clean, but with the right approach it’s possible and you won’t have to be there until the wee hours of the morning chasing your tail and never feeling like you get anywhere.
As for stripping and waxing the floors, just wait until the students are all gone to take on these projects and do the work by sections (one section on Monday, the next on Tuesday, etc.).
