Summer is over and that means that fall is in full swing. The only other thing Toronto area residents and business owners have to contend with now is the simple matter of winter right around the corner.
Most people have a tendency to dread winter unless they enjoy going skiing, snowmobiling, or taking part in those winter activities. Most business owners have a tendency to groan and dread the arrival of winter because that means extra attention needs to be paid to commercial floor surfaces.
One thing that can easily be overlooked, though, is autumn. Changes in autumn will require a bit of extra attention to those commercial floors as well. Not only will leaves come down in droves in October and parts of November, but the weather becomes unstable with more rain heading into the area. This can make those piles of leaves outside the building become extremely slick.
Inside, people will be tracking in quite a bit of debris from outside. They could be tracking in small leaves on the bottom of their shoes, rainwater, crushed up pieces of acorns and other nuts that fall from the trees, pebbles that get washed down from hillsides, dirt, and more.
Every time somebody steps into a commercial facility it exposes the owner of that facility to some type of liability. Imagine somebody walking into the lobby of your commercial facility, slipping and being injured because their shoes are wet and the commercial floor had recently been waxed.
Even though it’s considered an accident that might not stop the individual from filing a lawsuit against the company and property owner.
That’s why it is incredibly important to pay attention to autumn months and the weather challenges it will pose. When you do, you will recognize the need to have maintenance personnel keeping up with wet areas, keeping the floor clean, and even changing out and cleaning mats several times a day, depending on the weather outside.
