How to Bring the Shine Back to Your Commercial Floors

benefits of hardwood in hospitalsWhen you first had those linoleum tiles installed in your commercial facility, they looked amazing. During the first couple of years your maintenance personnel were on top of every situation, from basic spills to rubber tread marks left behind from dollies, from getting up gum and other sticky residue to making sure they stayed safe, even during the winter as snow, slush, and ice were tracked in.

Now, though, things don’t look as good as they used to. You’re starting to notice patterns of damage, wear-and-tear, and other issues that regular scrubbing, buffing, and waxing are not covering up.

You want to bring the shine back to your commercial floors, but that will require a bit of an investment. No, it may not be necessary yet to completely replace the floor, especially after only a couple of years, but you may need to consider some basic repairs.

Evaluate the overall pattern.

What does the pattern of issues look like from afar? If you were to stand on top of a 50 foot tall ladder or platform looking down on your commercial floor facility without the roof in place, would you notice a pattern? Are there certain areas that are more problematic?

The point of this is if people are walking along the same line, they will begin to wear down the tile itself more quickly. In this type of situation, it may be practical or reasonable to replace some of the tiles that are damaged or seem beyond help.

Depending on the type of commercial floor surface installed, you may be able to strip down the wax and completely rejuvenate some of the tile surfaces directly. If you are able to do that, make sure you have personnel who are highly experienced in replacing tile, repairing them, and then helping to get the entire floor surface looking uniform and like new.
