Germfest! How to Reduce Sickness in Office Spaces this Winter and All Year Long

how to reduce sickness in the officeWintertime is when colds and flus are most rampant. This is because windows and doors generally remain closed, including in commercial businesses. Whether it’s a hospital, mall, office building, or even an industrial complex, you’re going to find a lot of germs collecting on a variety of surfaces.

When you’re responsible for keeping commercial areas clean and safe for your employees and the general public, it means you’re going to focus on ways to reduce germs and other bacteria and that will help improve the health and integrity of everyone who comes in contact with your commercial facility.

Below are three things to keep in mind when maintaining and cleaning any commercial floor space or even general areas.

Focus on touch points. These touch points are places throughout the office or other building that people come in direct contact with. This could include doorknobs, door handles, any place on a door that people touch to push it open, keyboards, phones, common areas, water coolers, kitchen counters, information counters, and much more.

Focus on keeping these areas cleaned and disinfected on a regular basis. They are extreme hot spots for germs and other pathogens.

Providing protection throughout the building. Hand sanitizers are a great idea for just about any commercial business. Placing these hand sanitizers in strategic locations, such as just after they walk in the main building doors, just as they exit bathrooms, and even by every single main office or section of the facility can encourage people to simply grab a quick bit of sanitizer and clean their hands.

Keeping bathrooms clean. Keeping bathrooms clean throughout the year should always be a priority, but during the winter it may require more time and man hours. Focus on the touch points throughout the bathroom but also keep the floors clean and dry as much as possible, especially when it’s snowing or raining outside.

The more you focus on reducing germs throughout your commercial facility, the more you’ll help combat sickness for those using your facility.
