Taking care of a commercial property can be an incredibly challenging job. When working on cleaning floors, it can be even more grueling, depending on the size of the commercial floor space, the type of wear the floor sees on a regular basis, and the type of machines used to clean it.
If you are a manager, owner, or supervisor at a commercial facility, you will likely be responsible for the maintenance department (or be the supervisor of the person who is). One major aspect of commercial floor maintenance that is far too often overlooked is the physical demands that this type of job has on the staff.
Ways to Help the Maintenance Department
You may have an exceptionally large commercial space (such as a hospital or mall setting). In that case, you already know that keeping up with the condition of the floors is a daily chore. Most of the time the maintenance department will likely work during overnight hours, either when the facility is closed or (in the case of a hospital) when the traffic is lightest.
No matter how large the commercial space is, it’s a good idea to provide the maintenance department with the right floor cleaning machines, such as those specifically designed for the size of the floor as well as the amount of dirt and usage it sees.
Trying to cut corners to save a little money in the short term could actually backfire and cost a lot more money over time. You would also not be doing any good for the crew working on keeping those floors looking their best.
Bending over, kneeling down, and even sweeping, mopping, and scrubbing can take a serious toll on the human body. The human body wasn’t designed for that type of exhausting work on a daily basis and it can lead to injuries, pulled muscles, strained back ligaments and vertebrae, and more.
Many of these maintenance crew members won’t complain, either, but you can supply them with the optimal floor cleaning machines to make their life a bit easier.
