3 Reasons Being a Great Leader Will Affect Commercial Floor Maintenance

listenWhat in the world could being a great leader have to do with commercial floor maintenance? It’s actually a common question, but the connection will become readily apparent soon.

If you have a commercial facility you’re responsible for, you probably have maintenance personnel. Maybe you’re the maintenance director. Perhaps you’re the property manager. Whatever the case may be, your leadership style will have a direct impact on the quality of work your employees, your team members, will produce.

Here are three reasons why being a great leader, as opposed to a good manager, can actually have an impact on the cleanliness of the facility with regard to your maintenance department.

Reason #1: People listen to you.

When you’re a great leader, people listen. If you’re a manager who barks orders, eventually people grow tired of the routine. They start to tune you out. They already know what you’re going to say, so there is no point in actually listening.

On the other hand, great leaders inspire people to listen to what they have to say. They understand they are being led as a team and not told what to do by a boss.

Reason #2: You understand the job.

Let’s face it, you’ve never done any type of maintenance work of this nature in your life. You were hired to manage the property, not keep it clean and operating efficiently. That’s why you have a maintenance department.

A great leader, though, makes it his or her business to understand the jobs of those working for them. When you understand the job, you can empathize with the challenges they face. That could give you greater motivation to make the job more efficient and effective for everyone.

Reason #3: You inspire.

Great leaders inspire. It doesn’t matter whether you’re talking about those who work for the government trying to change the world or a janitor just trying to keep a hospital clean. When you’re a great leader, you inspire greater work.

Now, as a great leader, think about what you surround your team members with. Do the commercial floor machines leave something to be desired? If so, consider making a better investment today.
